Thai New Year in Bangkok

Songkran (Thai New Year water festival) is everywhere right now and for about a week it is quite hard to stay dry.
In the last few days I tried out the ‘GoPro’ HD video cam (which is waterproof) for a Songkran story. I took some footage in my neighborhood Huay Kwang and on Khaosan Road. Here are some still pics of my footage…

Huay Kwang is a district of mostly locals and they were quite happy to throw water on a foreigner. Of course there was no way I could stay dry or not have chalk powder on my face (traditional custom for good luck).

I thought Huay Kwang was pretty crowded – I actually had never seen so many people on the street there – but much bigger crowds gathered at Khao San Road (Tourist Area). Street vendors at every corner were selling water guns & chalk and most of the roads around this area will close for about a week.

Three more days of celebration before Bangkok turns back to normal. Happy Songkran!
